1988 16’ CRAWFORD SWAMPSCOTT SAILING DORY $7,900
S O L D
Located on the Florida Panhandle in Ochlocknee Bay
Hull# RDBS0149C888
Teak woodwork, bronze hardware, wonderfully strong fiberglass hull, and more, the epitome of traditional craftsmanship.
There are few small boats that can rival the versatility of these dories as they are equally capable of being sailed, rowed and motored. There is an entire section about the Swampscott Dories on the Melonseed web page and there’s a huge amount of information about the boat if you click on this link: http://www.melonseed.com/dory.html There is also an old homespun video we made about the boat and the boat shop back in the 1980’s called “Swampscott Dory # 138 to be found here
http://www.melonseed.com/dory-movie.html and also available on YouTube. It’s quite entertaining!
Owner’s comments:
I bought the Dory intending to keep it easily accessible on the beach in front of our home. Unfortunately, that same summer a tropical storm had enough surge to cause significant erosion of our beach. As a result, the Dory can no longer be kept on the beach. We find that it is just too convenient to use our powerboat which is kept on a lift or a kayak that can be carried to the beach when we want to get out on the water. Ours may be a case of "too many toys" and the Dory just has not been used. Time for someone else to enjoy it. Other than some flaking of the gelcoat on the cockpit floor, and a little minor touchup on the Cetol finish on the teak, everything else on the boat is in the same good condition as when I bought it from Roger a few years ago.
There is a very good (and expensive) waterproof full mooring cover with PVC supports. The motor is included, a like new 3.5 HP, four stroke Nissan. Per the previous owner, it had about 3 hrs. on it and I added probably an hour of use. See photos. There are two sets or oars. I will include the anchor, rode and anchor bag. Regarding the trailer, it has new bunks and guides. All lights function. Note that it uses a 1 7/8" ball. I have only towed it a grand total of 2 miles since I owned it. It has upgrade “Bearing Buddies” on the hubs, and they will be fully greased before traveling.
