OWNER’S COMMENTS:

“Skimmer is my second Melonseed and a 2008 upgrade from my original dagger board model purchased used in 1998.

Skimmer has been garage kept since new, and washed thoroughly after every sail. The hull is in good shape, but excellent is probably a bit strong.  The sail IS in excellent shape, it's actually the sail from the first dagger board model I had.   Her original boat cover is still waterproof and in excellent condition. Regarding the trailer, this summer I replaced the original wheels and tires, (now still roadworthy spares), with new galvanized wheels and tires. Last year the trailer bearings and races, inboard and out, were all replaced. I also have a complete new light set which I'll install before it goes.

Since I bought her, she's accompanied me on many adventures from coastal south Georgia and the waters around Cumberland Island, south to Saint Augustine and under the canons at Castillo San Marco. Sailing through the anchorage there at cocktail hour will invariably result in offers of refreshment in exchange for a close inspection. Skimmer, has also been a frequent participant in the annual, four-day Cedar Key "raid", hosted each May by the brilliant sailors of the West Coast Trailer Sailor Squadron.

These are magnificent boats in their simplicity and sailing manners. This one comes with 7 1/2 foot,   Shaw and Tenney spoon blade oars and locks that are as light as feathers, and a midget Bruce anchor that suffices to hold her quite well when a pause off shore for lunch or a nap is desired.  Her sail is in almost new condition and being among the earlier Mattern cuts, (coming from the original dagger board Melonseed), performs exceptionally well. You will not be disappointed.
