OWNER’S COMMENTS AND DESCRIPTION OF "Squirt":
“With very mixed feelings, I have decided it is time to put my 1999 Melonseed (RDBMS211L999) with Shorlander trailer. Black hull with cream deck and tanbark sail, she has been kept garaged at all times since delivery. She's been sailed all too infrequently - I would say an average of 5 or 6 times a year at Lake Lanier, GA. Unfortunately, for various reasons, I haven't sailed her in the past 5 seasons and it’s time to let go. I would like to see her sold to someone who will get good use of this fine sailboat and enjoy everything she has to offer. Reason for selling: After acquiring a larger boat, more suitable for overnighting, sleep aboard, my overall sailing time cannot justify keeping 2 boats. When I realized it's been 5 years since I sailed the Melonseed, I decided it's time to let her go - hopefully to be enjoyed by someone who can appreciate and get better use of this fine sailboat.”
“As far as condition, see pics attached. To me, the paint looks as good now as when I first bought her. Mast varnish is in good shape but foot needs to be re-varnished. There are a couple small gashes high on the front port side and a few small nicks, scratches but overall she is in excellent condition.”
“A 2 low-profile fenders and a 3 lb. mushroom anchor included. Trailer tires are original 4.80-12 Sport Trax bias ply Load range B. Tread is like new - there is some very slight sidewall cracking - spare looks good. Bearings should be cleaned and repacked. I've only trailered it 25 mi. back and forth to Lake Lanier but this trailer is overkill for this light a boat and should have no problem going 1,500 mi if needed.”
“My Best Sailing Experience and Overall Summary:
From the first, this fine sailboat has exceeded all my expectations. The beauty, simplicity of design, and ease of setup and handling simply cannot be beat. She will ghost along even when there is barely any apparent wind and also handle a surprising - 20 kts.+ amount of wind if necessary. The small size does not in any way diminish the enjoyment of sailing this boat - on the contrary, being so close to the water enhances the sailing experience. The feeling of being one with the elements in this boat is exhilarating. It's hard to describe. It simply has to be experienced. The sense of euphoria lasts long after the day's sailing is done. This boat will leave you with a grin on your face from the enjoyment of sailing her. Ask any Melonseed owner and you will get similar reaction.”
