This Melonseed is a versatile hybrid rowing and sailing vessel. Rowing enthusiasts will appreciate the dual sliding rowing stations. The versatile and forgiving balanced lug sailing rig offers fine sailing capabilities.
It is very stable in the water and is a lot fun to sail or row. It is an easy boat to fall in love with, because it is equally adept at both sailing and rowing, and it is a beautiful boat as well with its fine bow and stern, elevated ends (which help it drive over chop), and graceful sheer line.
It is perfect for single-handed sailing, or for 2-3 adults (or a few children). If desired, the sail can be raised and lowered while underway via a halyard line. Jiffy reefing (single point) is included, as are lazy jacks. The lazy jacks allow for sailing rig to be set high enough such that the boom does not get in the way while rowing or sailing. The boat includes an electric motor (which can be attached to the rudder), along with a battery. See below for additional included features.
For more information about the boat, see the builder's web site for the Melonseed.
Standard features include a solid hand laid fiberglass hull, white exterior gelcoat, one sliding rowing seat, forward dry storage hatch, and bronze oarlock sockets. The boat is ready to sail with top a quality sail, and all required rigging & hardware.
Many optional features are included as well: second sliding rowing seat, port and starboard dry storage hatches, stainless steel rub strip on keel, laminated wood sheer, green gel coat line under sheer, "Dune Beige" interior deck color, (2) pairs of 9' spoon blade oars, tan boat cover, docking fender package, ergonomic closed cell foam cushions for sliding rowing seats, 12V, 55 pound thrust electric motor, AGM battery, pre-wiring hidden inside hull for electric propulsion, custom fit galvanized Carnai trailer with hinged tongue and wheel, jiffy reefing, tiller extension, gear bag for balanced lug rig, (4) folding "pop up" stainless steel docking cleats, wide view rowing mirror with removable base, extra rim and tire (with mounting bracket) for trailer.
