“OWNER’S COMMENTS”:
After 17 years, we have decided to pass along our 1988 Swampscott Dory to a new owner to enjoy with family and friends as we have. Having recently retired and acquired larger craft here and in Florida, we have not been able to use the dory as we previously did.
It is in very good shape – as it was when we acquired it in 2006. It sails great, rows great, and motors nicely with the 5 HP Yamaha (1996). The hull has no structural damage and the tanbark sail, tiller/ruder and rigging are in great condition, as are the mast and sprit. I added a sprit boom that helps in the performance under sail and it is easy to mount and remove. It also comes with three 9-ft, custom oars handmade in Vancouver, and a like-new custom, tanbark canvas boat cover that Roger made. I kept that out of the weather and used heavy plastic tarps and wood frames for storage. The engine comes with a separate 2-gallon fuel tank and hose, and a tiller/throttle extender for so you can run it from a center position in the boat. An anchor, line, and two small fenders are also on the boat with a red throw cushion and boat hook.
The dory and trailer have current registrations. The Loadrite trailer is in good shape, with brand new hubs, bearings, rims/tires, and lights. The older rims and tires can be kept for spares.
I have tried hard to keep this dory in the same great condition it was in when I bought it. It comes with a 5hp Mercury 2 stroke that was in great running condition when I bought the dory but has been stored ever since and I have never used it. Main and jib are in good shape, rigging in good shape, spars in great shape. There is a custom mast partner with a gate arrangement that makes stepping the mast much easier.
Brightwork on the boat is in pretty good shape too, but it might be time for a bit of a touch up. The Dory has a nice waterproof cover and 2 sets of oars. The fiberglass is still in excellent shape cosmetically and structurally. All in all, I think this dory is at least an “8” on a scale of 1 - 10.”
This wonderful craft is ready for the water now.
