1978 15’ CRAWFORD GUNNING DORY

$2,500, a very good bargain!

15’ LOA x 3’ 9” BEAM X 135 LBS.

The original owner of this boat was John D. one of the helpers at Crawford Boat Building.  We built several of these for ourselves (myself included) some friends and “friends of friends” who all were highly enthusiastic about the boat.  You can read quite a bit more about the Gunning Dory on the “Brokerage page” on the Melonseed Skiff web page.  We still build this boat on occasion.  This link will take you directly to that information  http://www.melonseed.com/gunning-dory.html , and if you are at all interested in this boat I strongly encourage you to have a look at that information.  The Crawford Gunning Dory is one of the premier fixed seat rowing boats in its category.

After many years of enjoyable rowing, John built himself a beautiful 25’ cutter and found that he wasn’t using the Dory that often, he sold the boat to a fellow in the neighboring town of Pembroke, MA where the boat currently lies.

Along with all the usual flattering endorsements about the Dory, that owner, now the seller told me that he has “Many fond memories rowing dory at night off the coast of Cohasset, MA, fishing for and catching lots of large striped bass. It is a very seaworthy craft.”

The woodwork is all teak.  You will note that the gunnels were built in the “spacer block” style, a much more upscale version than even the current production version.  The owner reports that the boat, while 40 years old was so solidly built, and well taken care of that it is in quite good shape.

The current price of this boat when ordered new approaches $7,000, making this boat a very good bargain at the $2500 price it is offered for.
