Here is a bit more info on the history of the boat.  I have been building and repairing boats as a hobby ever since I built my first boat, a 14’ sailing dory in college.  I have taken courses on boat repair, construction, sail making and lofting locally and at Wooden Boat School.  Other boats I have built include two Rushton design canoes and a 11’ lap strake dingy.  I have done extensive repair on a 24’ carvel planked double ended wooden sailboat, and a 13’ Thompson runabout.  Most of my sailing experience has been with a larger 30’ fiberglass C&C Corvette.

A picture of a Barto Melonseed in wooden inspired me to build mine because of the beautiful lines and reported sailing qualities.  I justified the cost and time by convincing myself that I would use it after I could no longer handle the larger boat by myself. The boat was completed in 2008. A year ago I sold the C&C, but other interests have kept me from sailing the Melonseed.   In addition, my current living arrangements make it difficult to store the boat in a protected area where I can easily get it out to sail.  The boat has been stored in a protected structure since it was built.  The boat is not registered, as registration is not required for boats with no motor.  The trailer is registered in Vermont.
